About

Paula_Knight_Photo_SCI’m an author, illustrator and comics creator. I post comics, work in progress and other creative work here*.

I studied Graphic Design and Illustration in Bristol and Bologna.

I’m currently working on a graphic memoir for Myriad Editions, which was shortlisted in their First Fictions First Graphic Novel competition in 2012. My book is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

My work has included greetings cards, editorial and children’s books, with over 300 cards and 60 books illustrated. In recent years I’ve focused more on writing, and I’ve had three children’s picture books published.

My very first work in print appeared when I was thirteen, in Jackie magazine, 1984. It was a fan drawing of Jon Moss from Culture Club, printed on the letters page (left).

I play electric bass, and violin, occasionally contributing to recordings. I used to play bass/ write songs in a tiny Bristol indie band – our songs made it onto ‘fabulous’ Radio 1’s airwaves – played by John Peel, Steve Lamacq and somewhere in Manchester by Janice Long. I play a short spell of violin on the soundtrack of new British film, Dummy Jim. I’ve played live on Gideon Coe’s BBC6Music show with former Bristol band Forest Giants and on two Peel sessions at Maida Vale with Beatnik Filmstars.

I’m also a trained proofreader.

*I post some very personal work here, and although I respect and welcome the connections and empathy that this can bring, I’m not qualified or able to counsel people who have had similar experiences.
